MAY/JUNE 2018 UPDATE

We have been working on several tasks that need completing for the rehanging of our bells. At the end of April, we raised funds by offering three of the 125 year old Barnham Broom Church Bell Wheels for sale locally. These were snapped up very quickly. In May, a team of volunteers led by Graham Clifton from Whites of Appleton Ltd. Church Bellhangers strengthened the oak bell frame with new steel beams, angle brackets, ties and rods in preparation for the return of the bells. A spring clean around the church took place at the same time.  In June, Whites returned to fit bearing plates to the bell frame. There was also a spring clean of the Bell and Silence chambers by a working party of volunteers, ready for the bells to be raised in July.

As well as planning for the return of our bells, we are also turning our attention to planning for the re-dedication service in October. A thank-you letter has been sent out to our sponsors. The Order of Service and Invitations are being designed and a site visit to help plan the event took place at the start of June.

Garveston

On Spring Bank Holiday Monday, some of our trainee bell ringers joined in the Reymerston Ringers Outing. They visited 4 churches the ringers are associated with:  All Saints Shipdham, St Margaret's Garvestone, St Peter’s Yaxham and All Saints Mattishall. Each church provided an opportunity to ring their 6 bells.

At the same time as planning the Barnham Broom Village Summer Fete in aid of the Bells Appeal, our Events team are continuing their work on bringing the community together in fundraising events that will benefit the village. The recent "Afternoon Tea and Open Garden" raised £390 for the Memorial Garden. Our thanks to all who supported this.

We hope to see you all at the Barnham Broom Village Summer Fete on Sunday 19th August 2018 1pm to 5pm at The Mill House and our re-enactment of the history of the Church and bells on Saturday 6th October at the Church.

Bank Holiday Ringers Outing

On Bank Holiday Monday, some of our trainee bell ringers joined in the Reymerston Ringers Outing. They visited 4 churches the ringers are associated with. Each church provided an opportunity to ring their 6 bells.

1pm Shipdham: All Saints Church

2pm Garvestone: St Margaret's Church

3pm Yaxham: St Peter's Church

  

4pm Mattishall: All Saints Church 

Rehanging the bells Phase 1 – Strengthening Beams

With the bell frame structurally in fair condition, phase 1 of the rehang is to provide more support and strengthening to the bell frame.

Over a 2-day period, Graham Clifton from Whites of Appleton Ltd. Church Bellhangers was joined by volunteers who helped with the strengthening work, provided and helped with refreshments and lunches and helped with a spring clean around the church.

With holes already drilled to receive them, the beams were raised and held steady with the hoists while they were positioned.

The end result. Beams attached to the frame and ready to be cemented in.

Be a part of the Bells Re-enactment

Would you like to be a part of the Re-enactment of the history of the Bells?

It is being held at the Church on Saturday 6th October.

Be a part of the Barnham Broom Fete

Would you like to be a part of the Barnham Broom Fete?

It is being held at the Mill House on Sunday 19th August 2018 from 1.00pm to 5.00pm.

If you are local and would like to help on the day e.g. by manning stalls and/or games, baking cakes, offering prizes for tombola, donating books for the book stall etc. or if you are a local club, association, craft or stall holder that would like to book a stall, please contact the organisers via bbbells.appeal@gmail.com.

MARCH/APRIL 2018 UPDATE

With the return of our newly restored bells approaching, activity across a whole range of tasks is in progress. The large table, once in the vestry, has found a new home in the main body of the church. The old pew doors are being used to make the ringing chamber safer by lining the balcony and bannister.

Our events team are planning the last big fundraiser for the Bells Appeal. The Barnham Broom Village Summer Fete will be at the Mill House on Sunday 19th August 2018 1pm to 5pm. If there are any local clubs, associations, crafts or stall holders that would like to join us, please contact bbbells.appeal@gmail.com to book a stall at the fete.

There will be stalls, games, cakes, refreshments, a Beer Tent, BBQ, Bouncy Castle and more. Please do come and join us.

The Events team are also continuing their work under the direction of the Parish Council on fundraising events that will benefit the village. After a successful Quiz Night at the Village Hall in March that raised £295 towards the Memorial Garden, the next event will be Afternoon Tea and Open Garden at Home Farm on Saturday 23rd June.

A group of volunteers are working to produce a re-enactment of the history of the Church and bells. The re-enactment will take place on Saturday 6th October, in the Church. Watch for more details nearer the time.

Our sincere thanks once again to all who continue to help and support us. We have had a recent boost to our funds from the taxman in the form of a VAT refund. So our fund, which includes money in hand, money already spent and grants promised, now stands at less than £5000 away from our £74,000 target.
