Our
successful application to the EDP Community Chest Scheme has helped us hire the
Charmborough Ring for the Barnham Broom Village Fete on Sunday 17th July 2016.
The
Charmborough Ring is a portable belfry with 6 bells hung for full circle
ringing. It is operated by the Charmborough Bell Trust as a registered charity
for promoting change–ringing in the wider community. Change-ringing originated
in English churches in the 17th century and is still going strong today. Each
bell rotates backwards and forwards, sounding once as it rotates in each
direction. By changing the speed of rotation, the ringers cause the bells to sound
in different orders according to a pre-arranged permutation or “method”.
