VJ Day 75 - Ringing of the Barnham Broom Church Bells

On Saturday 15 August 2020 a group, including Bell Ringers and Bell Restoration Committee members, gathered in the churchyard of the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Barnham Broom to mark the 75th anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan) commemorating the end of the Second World War.

A two minutes silence was observed at 11am, followed by the reading, "Cry for Peace", read by the Tower Captain, Jill Tinsey, after which the restored Tenor bell chimed 75 times, rung by Ben Curtis. Ben was the last person to ring our bells before they were lowered and taken away for restoration. He also rang our bells using the restored Ellacombe chimes on the evening of 8 May 2020 to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

With thanks to Ben and his family for the video of the full 75 chimes

Ringing for VJ75

On Saturday 15 August 2020 the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Barnham Broom will join in the National programme for the 75th anniversary of VJ Day (Victory over Japan) commemorating the end of the Second World War.

After the two minutes silence at 11.00am, one of our newly restored bells will be chimed 75 times starting at 11.02am.

Any villagers wishing to hear the bells from the Churchyard are required to maintain Social Distancing.

We hope that the wind will be in the right direction so the bells may be heard across the village.
